Goodbye

It is with great sadness that I tell you that Morningstar died early the morning of Thursday 14 May. She died in her sleep at home in her own bed, just as she had wished. She faced death as she had lived her life, full-on, no excuses, always seeking the next adventure. Both of her sons were here the day before she died to say goodbye to her. A great light has gone out of my life.

Right now it is too hard for me to write many words for her, maybe later. My sister Tracy wrote to me with the following thoughts which I trust she will not mind my sharing with you.

"Dear Bob,

I've done a lot of reflecting on Morningstar's intelligence, creativity, adventurous personality and many talents these past 24 hours and continue to be amazed. Her photographs, journals, stitch work, book and articles are a wonderful legacy. She enriched all our lives and encouraged us to think about our world and how we can improve it. She had an eye for the natural beauty surrounding us each and every day. She certainly did not take life for granted and she particularly appreciated every day this past year. I think her happiest years were those spent with you, and I suspect you felt the same about your time with her. It is a tremendous loss for all who knew her."

Your sister put it so well. She truly expressed my feelings also.

Morningstar was very unique. Following her various adventures, with you, through this blog has been exciting and very informative.

We all have an empty spot in our hearts.

SO, SO SORRY! Thank you for updating at what must be a painful time. She will be missed.
I enjoyed reading the blog about living off the grid while living here in Seattle. Her political thoughts sometimes mirrored my own.

I'm truly sorry for your loss, and I hope doctors, therapists and others can be directed to her writings to show lung cancer happens to non-smokers as well. One should never asume cancer is anyone's fault, ever.

Take Care,
cathy

I have been following this blog for quite some time, now, and am deeply saddened to hear the news. Every post Morningstar wrote was beautiful, kind, and heartfelt. I've never been so moved by complete strangers as I have by you.
Thank you for sharing your life with us - your journey has been incredibly inspiring and has touched more people than you'll ever know.

Oh, how heartwrenching.

I so enjoyed reading about Morningstar's thoughts and experiences and I hope I learned to slow down and enjoy small sights as she clearly did.

My deepest regrets for your loss.

So sorry Bob to hear of Pat's passing. Since receiving her letter in April and the horrible news of the cancer not a day went by that I didn't have her in my prayers. I couldn't help but wonder if she would make it to her 70th birthday and go on the hot air balloon ride that she was looking forward to.
What a gal !!!! So many adventures in her lifetime. She was such an
unique person. I've know Pat since childhood and know myself and her fellow classmates will miss seeing her smile at our class gatherings.
My prayers and thoughts are with you Bob.

Just received notice of Pat's passing and I am so sorry to hear such sad news. I thought of her often in the days past, after hearing of her dreadful illness. I do hope you are getting along well and my heart and prayers go out to you as you continue your journey alone. She will be your guiding spirit in so many ways.

I am very sorry! She had some wonderfully inspiring words for me when I learned of my stepmother's diagnosis of Stage IV lung cancer in January. Not a day has gone by since then that I haven't thought about the hot air balloon ride she was planning. It was clear that she loved life and lived it to the fullest, and I know she'll be missed.

I have been following this blog since a comment Bob made to a Common Dreams article a couple of years ago struck a cord with me. I lived through their adventures vicariously ever since. Reading their writings and thoughts has allowed me to hang on to what little faith I have left in humanity -- if only the world could be populated by people the likes of Bob and Morningstar. I am so sorry to read of Morningstar's passing.

Morningstar continues to be in my thoughts. I miss reading her posts, and am still trying to figure out why this happened to her. For sure, she made great impacts on many people.

Hope you are doing well, Bob.
